So interesting, thank you. This premise is what most of the 'brain retraining' neuroplasticity programs, that are marketed to people with chronic illness , use as a main practice - rerouting the imagination to imagining and embodying yourself well again.
I am in such a brainretraining programme and your perspective and explanation here has really resonated with me and given me more of a deeper felt understanding of what I am “trying to do” when using active imagination for a more hopeful future, especially with letting things emerge from the unconscious rather than using just my conscious mind. I was very touched by this so thank you.

I hear that. It's a tricky thing if it's meant to deny or bypass suffering and is laden with reductionist spiritual ideology.
Oh I didn't mean it to be a negative link between the two - just interesting to me where things pop up, when! It's a very effective practice for me.
